Timber Production on Small Farms – how will you get your timber from farm to buyers?
You are invited to join us as fellow timber growers to visit an 80-year-old mixed rainforest timber plantation in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
We will be talking to the harvesting and milling contractor David Kirby, of Kirby Fine Timber, who has a unique harvesting agreement with the landowner.
We will also be looking at Mr Kirby's custom built bandsaw mill and have the opportunity to talk to him about the high grade timber that he cuts for instrument makers and other craftsmen for use in high value products. It is a great opportunity to get ideas on how you might like to proceed with your harvest and milling operations.
You will also meet some professional contractors, share your ideas and discuss your individual forestry options.
Even if your trees are not yet of millable size, early planning and knowing how to manage your trees to produce the highest grade of timber is essential. Planning can never start too early!
We will be travelling to Solar Road, Eumundi, and then to Diamond Valley, Mooloolah.
Please meet at Landsborough Railway Station carpark. The bus will depart at 9.45am sharp and return at 2.15pm. Numbers are limited so please book early.
Fee: $15 per person Morning tea and lunch provided (please inform us of any dietary requirements)
Please wear outdoor protective clothing and carry water
